In this photo I have on only clear brow gel! This is after two sessions with Hotaru!
We all know that microblading is having a moment and for good reason. Being able to wake up with already filled in, gorgeous brows are one of the things that dreams are made of.
If I am honest when I do my brows full on from start to finish it takes me at least 15 minutes. Now that I am chasing a 10-month-old around being able to save 15 minutes on that task and having already done had me running to get my eyebrows microbladed.
Microblading is essentially like a temporary tattoo that slightly fades over time (one year on average) and is touched up every now and again. It is fully customizable in terms of the shape you want your brows, the thickness, the color and even if you prefer real-life hair strokes or a more filled in brow called powder brow.
I did my thorough research on microblading artists in Kentucky where I live and I came across Hotaru. Her instagram was filled with gorgeous before & after photos, she was more than certified; in fact she teaches microblading to artists throughout several states, and more importantly to me she does powder brows which was the look I was going for.
I met with her and she numbed both of my brows for around 20 minutes. During this time we talked about Do’s & Don’t’s and she warned me that microblading doesn’t take that well or as quickly on very light blonde brows or with people who use very potent medical grade skincare like retinA products. Since both of these apply to me I appreciated her candor.
When she started the procedure I did not feel anything. It was about a hour from start to finish because Hotaru is a perfectionist and I appreciate that. I mean these things called brows are on my face after all.
We completed the microblading and around 5 days later my eyebrows had scabbed over and started to flake off. It was painless and I just filled in any gaps with dipbrow gel. After all the skin had flaked off I waited around 2 weeks and like Hotaru said all of the pigment had fully shown up.
I did my second session 1 month later which is normal to really get the microblading to take and stay for 6 months to a year without touchups. The procedure and healing time was identical the second time around.
Now I am a month or so out and all of the pigment has shown up. It is great to be able to wake up and throw clear brow gel through my brows and walk out the door. I will definitely be following up with Hotaru to maintain my results. All the details for her are below!
